March 6th-7th, 2024, 8:30-3:30

Riverside County Office of Education, Murrieta Office

Facilitator: Ryan Dent

Using sequences of rich contexts from children’s lives, participants in this workshop will deepen their understanding of the most important big ideas, strategies and models for children to construct on the Landscape of Learning for Multiplication and Division. Through collaboratively engaging in mathematical investigations and analyzing classroom video and student work, we will highlight the journey of development that young learners take and strengthen teachers’ capacity to support progressive development of this critical topic. Models such as the open number line, ratio table and open array will be explored. We will also examine the role of number strings alongside these powerful models so that they become tools for thinking for your students.

All participants will receive an inquiry-based math unit to use in their classroom and 2 months of free access to the New Perspectives Online classroom video platform!
